The importance of breathing

We all know that breathing the right way is a great tool to reduce stress. “Just breathe” has pretty much become a cheesy expression but it does actually work to do so.

We do it all day every day, and we never even take notice of it, but breathing is a great tool for relaxation. When stress begins to build up the trick is to get breathing. Whether you really believe in this trick or not, it certainly worth giving it a try. The majority of us find it most relaxing to crash in front of the TV at the end of the day, but if you can build some calculated breathing into your busy day, it will have benefits that help you be in better shape throughout.

You would be surprised what proper breathing can do actually. It decreases the heart rate and blood pressure and eases muscle tension. When you set yourself breathing in the right way, your metabolism decreases, your breathing and heart slow down and this actually has a physiological impact. For one, oxygen levels increase in the body, and as we well know that is pretty useful stuff. You can get not only a burst of energy but an improvement in brain power too.

Focussed breathing requires bringing the air down to the abdomen. Usually we just use the top part of our lungs but for a really effective breath this is not really enough. Deep breathing increases the supply of oxygen to your brain and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system. This gets a calmness on the go and helps you connect to your own body. Now your mind is focussed on you and not the one hundred and one things that are stressing you out. The effect is that you give yourself a break from negative energy and bolster yourself to act in the right way.

Breathing, it’s simple, we are born to do it. Now, just use it the right way and help yourself with other areas of your body and your life, you will be amazed at the difference it makes.
